How it works

The process usually commences with a meeting in the UK to outline how you should act to ensure you are well prepared for your emigration from a financial point of view.

For those who do not have the time available to meet up, we offer a teleconference option, or alternatively if your main concerns are pensions based, you can request the forms to be sent out to you to have the process commenced on your behalf.

1. What happens before the meeting?

After you have contacted us to arrange a meeting, we will then send you a ‘Pre – Meeting Pack’ via email
or post. This will include:

Meeting details - including confirmation of the location and fee

Pre meeting questionnaire – We ask you to complete and return this to us prior to the meeting.
This gives us a ‘heads up’ on your position before you arrive and enables us to prepare the relevant
materials for you in advance.

2. What happens after the meeting?

Following the meeting, we provide you with follow up information summarising the main issues discussed at a high level and our pricing to proceed further for you. Where time is of the essence, we will also have the forms available to complete to progress the work further for you.

3. What does follow up work entail?

  • Full and comprehensive research on how your financial position will be impacted (in the areas we are investigating for you) across the UK, Australia, New Zealand and cross border options;
  • Incorporation of the latest technical and financial developments from Prism Xpat at the UK side and through relevant input from our affiliates based in Australia and New Zealand to create a tailored financial strategy for you;
  • The tailored strategy report will provide a recommendation (and our reasoning behind it) and information on how to implement the strategy;
  • A teleconference/meeting will then be arranged with you after the recommendations have been issued to help you understand the strategy and how to proceed. We will also be pleased to answer any related questions you have;
  • Implementation of the strategy/process would be undertaken with you as per the recommendations outlined in the report.
  • A summary of your financial position will also be prepared in readiness for your meeting with our Australian or New Zealand based affiliate shortly after you arrive.

4a. What happens next (if you have pensions)?

Where you appoint us to determine whether an international pension transfer is in your best financial
interests, we will undertake a detailed comparison of your pension in the Australian or New Zealand
system, compared to what you would be giving up in the UK and recommending whether it is in your
interests to transfer all your pension out abroad, or whether you should retain some in the UK.

If the answer is YES to a transfer, we co-ordinate all the administration required, including liaising with
the Australian or New Zealand and UK schemes to ensure the transfer is properly completed. Where
required, this step will also include educating the scheme on how to undertake the transfer, as well as
directly negotiating with them on your behalf to have the pension transfer undertaken as efficiently as
possible.

Our on the ground presence in the UK is vital in giving you the maximum chance of speeding up the
pension transfer process, and for new emigrants to have maximum chance to beat the 6 month limit.
Simply by avoiding time zone differences in dealing with your assets based in the UK we will be saving
you a large potential tax bill!

We can also provide you with an indication of the opportunities you have to maximise your UK pension
prior to undertaking any transfer.

4b. What happens next (non-pensions)?

We guide you through a number forms and documents that may be required prior to departure.

If you are a client we are available via telephone or email to answer any questions that may come up
during the process.

5. What happens after you have arrived abroad?

Our Australian and New Zealand affiliates are one of our strengths.

Whilst the majority of the work being undertaken on your behalf would be completed at the UK side, our
international affiliates play an important role in completing work which for either legal or regulatory
reasons can only be completed after you have arrived in your new country. As part of the service, they will
be pleased to provide you with a free 'Welcome to Australia' or ‘Welcome to New Zealand’ financial
consultation to ensure you make the most of the opportunities available to you once you arrive.

The affiliates in each location have been chosen after a rigorous selection process on a state by state
basis. This selection process was undertaken with the sole aim of ensuring that you receive the most
professional, tailored and high quality advice on arrival from people that are trained up in the issues for
emigrants into your new country.

Each of Prism Xpat’s financial advisory affiliates abroad are fully regulated, with highly qualified staff and
operate as independent advisers, providing unbiased advice with your best interests at hand on
everything from high yielding bank accounts to investments, property, insurance and superannuation.

6. What do I do next?

The process starts through a meeting with one of our specialists.
